This is my 2013 assessment of Terry Eagleton and Frederick Nietzsche. I never did review Eagleton’s Why Marx was Right but his resignation from the WSL was to furer his career in academia and he certainly never wrote a book to tell us why Trotsky was right. I’ve added in two pieces referenced in the original text, to demonstrate these were contentious issues in academia itself, and not just my own mad, unrelaible opinions which conflicted with serious intellectials whom I was not fit to criticise.

Terry Eagleton, former supporter of Alan Thornett’s and John Lister’s Workers Socialist League, the left split from Gerry Healy’s Workers Revolutionary Party in 1974. They took with them the best working clas militants, who were replaced by Vanessa and Corin Redgrave, Actor’s Equity and Cornel Muammar Gaddafi.

The exchange on philosophy began on the question of Terry Eagleton’s Marxism, on which I poured some scorn. I had read Crazy John and the Bishop (on John Toland and Bishop Berkley) many years ago and I profoundly disagreed with him there. I have not read his current craze, Why Marx was Right but have ordered it from Amazon. An extract from a review might suggest problems:
